The Sustainable Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (SAIL) is a research group at the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the Universidad de Granada. It was established in 2019 with the goal of promoting the development and application of artificial intelligence in the energy sector, with a particular focus on the simulation, modeling, and control of smart buildings and advanced power grids (smart grids).
Over time, the laboratory has expanded its research lines, tackling new challenges in key areas such as combating disinformation through artificial intelligence tools. In this field, SAIL studies advanced methods for detecting fake news, fact-checking, and analyzing the spread of information on social media. Additionally, the lab collaborates with academic institutions and companies in applied research projects. Its mission is to promote the ethical and sustainable use of artificial intelligence, contributing to technological development with a positive societal impact.
In addition to research, the laboratory is committed to education and outreach. SAIL members mentor students, supervise doctoral theses, and contribute to academic programs in artificial intelligence and sustainable technologies. The lab also organizes workshops, conferences, and public discussions to raise awareness about the responsible use of AI and its potential to address global challenges.
At its core, SAIL strives to advance artificial intelligence in ways that benefit both technology and society. By bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and real-world applications, the lab plays a key role in shaping the future of AI-driven sustainability and information integrity.
